In this class we discuss the more recent moral battles that preceded the issues of so-called same-sex marriage in our day as well as the assumptions about public morality earlier in our nation’s history which set the stage for the battles we face today. We also review briefly the somewhat similar misperceptions amongst many in the recent past that the moral issue of homosexuality and same-sex marriage was a settled issue in our land.

In this class we continued our discussion of the notion of ‘sexual orientation’ and how we should understand the the moral and dispositional situation of those who make the claim of homosexual orientation.

In this class we finish reviewing Dr Albert Mohler’s brief discussion from Desire and Deceit of the book by Kirk and Madsen, After the Ball: How America Will Conquer Its Fear and Hatred of Gays in the 90’s with further attention to the notion of ‘sexual orientation’ and related issues of natural disposition, and genetic predisposition, and whether these concepts form a sufficient foundation for determining the moral status of homosexuality.
