Machen: Creeds in the context of error
Geneva Redux gives a welcome quotation from Machen’s God Transcendent, published in 1949:
The increasing richness and the increasing precision of Christian doctrine were brought about very largely by the necessity of excluding one alien element after another from the teaching of the church.
From the time of the Apostles to the present day, it would appear that the Lord Christ has increased the Church’s knowledge of Himself through the crucible of controversy.
