In this class we conclude our discussion of the issue of church incorporation.
In the Church, there is no other supreme authority but that which belongs to Christ. This is pictured for us in Scripture as Christ is declared to be the Head of the Church as His Body, the Husband of the Church as His Bride, the King of the Church as his citizens.
- Christ the Head of the Body
- Ephesians 1:22–23 (NKJV): 22 And He put all things under His feet, and gave Him to be head over all things to the church, 23 which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all.
- Colossians 1:18 (NKJV): 18 And He is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things He may have the preeminence.
- Christ the Husband of the Bride
- Ephesians 5:22–24 (NKJV): 22 Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. 23 For the husband is head of the wife, as also Christ is head of the church; and He is the Savior of the body. 24 Therefore, just as the church is subject to Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in everything.
- Christ the King of His Kingdom the Church
- Ephesians 5:5 (NKJV): 5 For this you know, that no fornicator, unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God.
- Colossians 1:13–14 (NKJV): 13 He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love, 14 in whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins.
