The apparent assumption of those we have considered in relation to the Strategic Plan is that, though we have a supposed unity in our Confessional Standards (our so-called “Formal Values”), yet those Standards do not hold forth a unifying vision and agenda (our so-called “Animating Values”) for the Church. It would seem that we are left with our competing agendas that are leading to disunity. Consequently the Strategic Plan seeks to put forward a unifying vision and agenda.
In this class we insist that this apparent assumption is mistaken and that the Strategic Plan is misguided. We begin by defining Confessionalism and then present a summary of the case that such Confessionalism is commanded in Scripture. We do this with an eye toward presenting the unifying vision and agenda for the Church as found in the Westminster Standards in contrast to the other competing visions and agendas considered thus far.
